From the President: I want to begin by thanking all the volunteers, Borough employees, and local businesses, who have given so much of their time and energy over the last several months to make our summer a great time to be a resident of Dupont. I won't take the time or space to try to mention each one, and what they did, for I'm sure to leave out somebody. Everyone has contributed greatly to making our community the great place to live that it is. On behalf of all of Dupont Borough Council, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! Now, just a few notes to keep you all up to date on what has been accomplished this summer. *Pothole patching was done throughout the Borough this spring and summer.
*Per our meeting with UGI we may begin placement of new line for residential connection. PAWCO is trying to coordinate to have the new water lines replaced also. We anticipate street paving for Bridge St., Monroe St., Liberty St., Harding St., Center St., Gill St., and Grove Street hopefully 2017 or 2018.
*The turnpike bridge and Rt. 81 bridges were taken down and Navy Way Road was officially opened in September. Work with the Heidelberg Bridge is scheduled for 2017.
*The new Pa. State Police Hangar Project is almost complete.
*Our new plow truck/salt spreader is bring used for Navy Way Road and will help to maintain our roads more effectively in case we have more precipitation this winter.
*Storm drain work on several of our roads, replacing catch basins and repairs to drain lines. We were able to repair several sections that have been creating problems for years. While we were able to address the most pressing needs, there are also other areas that will need attention in the near future. These will be prioritized according to the severity of the problem and the funds available to adequately address the problem.
*We have taken definitive steps to address the needs of our septic system, camera inspection of several sections of lines, and scheduling preventive maintenance on problem areas. While the camera inspections were being done we were able to identify the need to continue this proactive approach to maintaining our septic system.
*We have applied for Flood Mitigation Grants and for Borough Renovations through the Gaming Grants. Luzerne County is still planning to assist us with tax credits for the Ben Franklin School.
*Police Regionalization is updated on the Mayor's Page.
*Centennial Events: Many events are planned for a fantastic celebration. Please join us in the once in a lifetime celebration.
As we look to the future, I am sure you will be hearing about "Regionalization" as more and more communities continue to face various negative pressures, financial and otherwise. Dupont Borough Council has been actively pursuing this idea for some time, and we will continue to do so. Recently we have been moving forward to discuss how shared services and resources could benefit all communities. Stanley Knick, Jr.
From the Vice President: SAFETY: As a member of the Police Committee, safety of our residents is extremely important. If anyone has a concern about a safety matter or any other matter of the Borough please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always willing to listen to any complaint and help to find a resolution to the problem. Mark Kowalczyk
