I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter. Rarely do the local media attend our meetings. The one drawback of a lack of media presence at our meetings means that the residents of Dupont Borough are not always informed of the many good things that are happening in our community. I am very proud to say that our Borough Council Members and I always try to work together for the betterment of our community.
Hopefully this newsletter will fill in some of those gaps and I extend a thank you to all of the department heads and employees who worked very hard to produce this newsletter.
We are moving forward with the Northeast Regional Police Department of Luzerne County. This will include Borough of Dupont, Borough of Hughestown, Township of Jenkins, and Township of Pittston, to provide for mutual police protection within each of the respective municipal limits by creating a joint police force. Other communities have discussed their intention to join but have not fully committed at this time.
As your Mayor, the safety and welfare of the residents of Dupont is what I feel is my most important role. I take this responsibility very seriously. People deserve to feel secure in their homes and safe in their neighborhoods. I urge everyone to remain vigilant and support our Police Department's ongoing efforts to make the criminal element feel unwelcome in Dupont Borough.
The primary way you can help the police help you is to immediately call 911 when you see something suspicious. Oftentimes, people will call the Borough office and tell us that they don't feel comfortable calling 911 over something "minor". By making the police aware of minor problems immediately, you can prevent minor issues from turning into major problems. With your help, we can continue to make Dupont one of the safest towns in Luzerne County to live in.
My commitment to you is paramount and I urge you contact me with any concerns you may have. Mayor Dan Lello
